Small-group, photography-focused expeditions with Delaney Trowbridge
Hop aboard some of the best whale-watching zodiacs in California for an all day adventure photographing wild whales and dolphins in their natural habitat! Led by experienced marine wildlife photographer, Delaney Trowbridge, you will explore topics such as camera settings, body-positioning, shot composition, animal behavior, visual-storytelling, and various tips & tricks. Zodiacs provide the ultimate open-ocean photography platform with their speed, maneuverability, and stability; the low-profile inflatable tubes allow you to capture intimate images that truly make you feel like you are “eye to eye” with your subject.
Photographers of all skill levels are welcome.
Summer Workshops
Southern California is one of the best places in the world to spot giant blue whales, which visit every summer to feed. Capture breathtaking images of the largest whales on Earth, and up to four species of dolphins on this all-day adventure.
Fall Workshops
California’s playful humpback whales begin their migration to Mexican waters, bringing them directly into Southern California - where they feed and socialize. The whales are often accompanied by active megapods of long-beaked common dolphins.

Recommended Gear
While photographers of all skill levels and all types of cameras are welcome, these recommendations will set you up with the ideal equipment for capturing every moment at sea.
DSLR/Mirrorless Camera Body
Telephoto Lens (Zoom between 70mm - 600mm)
Camera Storage Bag/Box (waterproof recommended)
Extra batteries / SD cards
Action Camera w/ Housing + Extender Pole
Things to Know
Due to the long duration of this tour, it is not recommended for people prone to motion-sickness or first-timers.
There is no bathroom on the zodiac. There is a midday bathroom break at Catalina and a “bucket” for emergencies.
Drones are not permitted to be flown on this tour.
Dress appropriately. It can be significantly colder on the water, it’s better to overdress than underdress for this tour.
While this workshop is friendly to novices, it is not recommended that you reserve this trip if you have not used a camera before.
